FASHION | THE KNOWLEDGE | No Brown in Town
Simply, one does not wear brown (considered appropriate for country or casual wear) as it is not a formal color. Of course plenty of gentlemen flout this rule, as what are rules if they are not meant to be broken? Unfortunately, if you work for a white shoe firm then chances are such behaviour will be greatly frowned upon by the old guard partners. Err on the side of caution.
There is an age old saying, particularly in London and New York, referring to the wearing of brown suits or shoes in the office. "No Brown in Town".
