Bull Shot

CULTURE  |  FANCY A TIPPLE?  |  Bull Shot

After a day out on the range, one finds oneself cold, thirsty and hungry all at the same time. As those who well know me can attest, I make for rather unpleasant company when in this state. I need a bull shot.
This is a drink not dissimilar to a bloody mary but far more satisfying at this time of year. As with all cocktails, this beef consommé drink is best consumed freshly made, however, the clever prep will have some in a flask back at the shooting brake for a tipple after a day engaged in whatever outdoor pursuit happens to be your choice (wink, wink).

Ingredients:
  • 2 or 3 ice cubes
  • Double shot of vodka
  • Juice of half a lemon (lime for an interesting alternative)
  • 5 drops of Worcestershire sauce (Lea & Perrins is best)
  • 3 drops of Tabasco sauce
  • 150ml beef consommé
  • Pinch of celery salt
  • Pinch of ground black pepper
  • Celery stalk for garnish
  • Prawn/slice of tomato/slice of lime for garnish
Instructions:
  1. Add ice to a glass tumbler
  2. Pour vodka over ice
  3. Add the Worcestershire sauce, tabasco sauce, lemon juice and beef consommé to the glass
  4. Season with celery salt and black pepper
  5. Add celery stalk and use to gently mix drink
  6. Add garnish
  7. Warm your cockles right up and let the games begin!
