Louis Comfort Tiffany was a famous designer who was best known for his work with stained glass and his embrace of the design principles of the art nouveau movement.
The son of Charles Tiffany (founder of the eponymous Tiffany & Co), Louis Comfort Tiffany commenced his career as a painter but soon found he had a passion and talent for creative glasswork. His reputation for excellence quickly spread and he was approached to design glass pieces for clients far and wide, including the Mark Twain House, the White House and Brown Hotel. Louis Comfort Tiffany became design director for his father's company and initiated the production of lamps featuring his trademark art noveau stained glass designs for the lampshade. These instantly proved to be the most popular item from his design studios and are still very much in demand today.

Tiffany was infamous?
ReplyDeleteinfamous, adj.
1: having a reputation of the worst kind : notoriously evil
2: causing or bringing infamy : disgraceful
3: convicted of an offense bringing infamy
I have used "infamous" out of context for years! Of course, I did not mean to imply that Tiffany was of bad rep!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the education - I'll not make that mistake again! :)
