This wonderful cocktail was named after Tom Collins, a fictional character that was the center of an ongoing hoax joke in the United States in the 1800s. In 1876 legendary mixologist, Jerry Thomas, scribed a recipe for this drink which has gone on to become one of the most popular drinks globally.
Ingredients:
- Large measure of gin (Tanqueray or Gordon's would be my recommendations)
- Club soda (Schweppes is best)
- Juice of half a lemon
- Tablespoon of granulated sugar
- 3 ice cubes
- Slice of lemon
- Mascherano cherry
- Pour gin into a high-ball Collins glass
- Add ice cubes, lemon juice and sugar
- Fill glass with club soda
- Mix with a straw
- Add lemon and cherry to garnish
- Find a comfortable seat outdoors somewhere, sip and relax.
